The government of Egypt would not take part in military intervention in neighbor Libya, according to Menha Bakhoum, spokeswoman of the Egyptian foreign ministry. This comes after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that discussions are ongoing regarding the possible intervention of Arab states. Despite Cairo's decision to abstain from participating in any military intervention, the Libyan crisis could nevertheless undermine Egypt's security environment going forward. We are particularly concerned about the prospects for a large influx in refugees on Egypt's western border over the coming months.
