Oil Wealth Will Help Prevent Unrest

Our core scenario does not see current unrest in Algeria as capable of driving a change of regime, with the government's energy wealth likely to offset most of the protesters' grievances. However, with protesters starting to demand a change in government, in addition to the requests for jobs and lower prices, we caution that there are some risks of larger-scale demonstrations in Algiers over the coming weeks.
