The EU ambassador to Angola, Javier Puyol, expressed his contentment with the projects supporting farming and environmental protection, implemented in the southern Huíla province and funded by the EU. He said that the EU would continue to support Angola, focusing its assistance in five sectors: health, education, water, agriculture and cattle breeding, and civil society. Despite strong growth and immense oil wealth, there is still widespread poverty in Angola, and donor support is still substantial. The US government has pledged US$2.3mn to fight malaria, while Spain has offered US$3mn to train government staff.
