Thousands protested in Tunisia on August 15 for more vigorous prosecution of former elites following the release of former Justice Minister Bechir Tekkari from prison. The lack of publicised trials, such as that of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in Cairo, have Tunisians concerned that the interim government is sympathising with members of the former Ben Ali regime. In response, Prime Minister Beji Caid Sebsi stated on August 18 that the government would take a harder line against elites in the old regime. The interim government continues to face difficulty in managing the public's expectations regarding the country's political transition.
