A suicide attack on a police station in the regional capital of Tizi Ouzu on August 14 injured at least 29 people, including officers and civilians. The attacker loaded a vehicle with explosives and drove into the main entrance of the building. Four days after, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which has been responsible for a series of attacks in the region, claimed responsibility for the incident. Algeria has been struggling to contain the threat of terrorism, which will likely continue to harm the country's ability to attract foreign direct investment.
