BMI View: Qatar has growing ambitions to become a regional power in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), backed by its massive hydrocarbons wealth. While the country may well punch above its weight, its small population means that its influence will be overshadowed by 'big players' such as Iran and Saudi Arabia, and eventually Egypt.
