The Iranian government has released two US citizens, who were arrested in 2009, from an Iranian prison on September 21. The two prisoners, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal were released on bail of US$500,000 each their sentences were commuted. The two men, arrested near Iran's border with Iraq while hiking, were sentenced to eight years of imprisonment on espionage charges. This incident will do little to ease tense relations between the US and Iran, which have been exacerbated by the continuation of the latter's nuclear programme.
