September 2011 | Risk Summary

Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) fighters have managed to capture various strategic areas including the airport in the southern city of Sabha. The NTC has claimed that tens of thousands of people are living in unbearable conditions in areas still held by forces loyal to Muammar Qadhafi. Residents in these areas are at risk from the heavy fighting and the shortage of water, food and medical care. Qadhafi's forces have stolen supplies from the residents and are killing people who express support for the revolutionaries, according to Ahmed Bani, military spokesman of the NTC.
