The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Assembly has expressed its willingness to support Tunisia's democratic transition. In separate meetings with Tunisian Defence Minister Abdelkrim Zbidi and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Khemaies Jehenaoui on September 19, Assembly Chairman Karl Lamers emphasised the importance of Tunisia's transition for regional stability. He also stated that the outcome of Tunisia's transition would have a strong influence on the outcomes of other MENA states in transition. We see NATO's willingness to assist Tunisia as a positive sign that the West is keen to continue cooperation with the Maghreb country.
