October 2011 | Risk SummaryAlmost 95% of HIV/AIDS patients in Botswana that were eligible for treatment were on Anti Retroviral (ARV) drugs in 2010, according to a report commissioned by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations. Of those in treatment, 90% were on publicly-funded, free ARVs. The result of this increase in coverage has been a 10% fall in the country's mortality rate. Botswana currently has the second highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the world, with 24.8% of adults in the country infected, but sustains a relatively low death rate due to its impressive ARV
