October 2011 | Risk Summary

Kenyan armed forces have launched a cross-border military operation with Somali counterparts to rid the area surrounding the border the countries share of rebels. The decision was taken to deploy Kenyan troops into Somalia after several foreigners were kidnapped in separate incidents from areas in Kenya in the area. Al Shabaab has denied responsibility for the kidnappings and has vowed to retaliate against the incursion by attacking targets in Kenya.
