Boko Haram's Coordinated Strikes Underscore Challenges
November 2011 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: The recent attacks by the terrorist organisation Boko Haram portray an increasingly brazen, coordinated effort to wreak havoc in the north-eastern parts of Nigeria. The threat of Islamist violence is on the increase, and further deadly attacks are likely; however we maintain our view that conflict will continue to be concentrated in the north, and economic activity is not likely to be seriously affected. Stemming the rising tide of terrorism in the impoverished parts of the country will be complicated by a variety of factors, including amorphous command structure of Boko Haram, indications of increased foreign support by more experienced terror groups, and the threat of increased availability of weapons following conflicts in North Africa.
