The election of members of parliament, held simultaneously with the presidential election in September, have elicited a record number of petitions filed with the High Court, contesting the various outcomes. The ruling Patriotic Front party has contested 50 constituencies, while the United Party for National Development has contested 11. Additionally, the former ruling party, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, has contested three and independent candidates have contested two. The disputes come largely from the Eastern, Western, and Northwestern Provinces, which filed 18, 14, and 10 petitions respectively.
