The government freed on bail a number of the former president Laurent Gbagbo's allies this November in an attempt to coax his former party the Front Patriotique Ivoirien (FPI) into participating in the December parliamentary election. Those released include three former ministers and a journalist who worked for the state broadcaster. However, the FPI complained that only eight of its 65 requests for bail were approved. The granting of bail was part of an attempt by the government to see at least some of the pro-Gbabo camp participate in the December 11
