Two fishing vessels were hijacked by gunmen off the coast of Nigeria on November 18, according to security sources. The gunmen kidnapped the captains of the two boats, marking the latest incident in a series of hijackings. On the same day, three people were reportedly taken hostage by eight pirates from an oil supply vessel contracted by US-based Chevron. Both incidents took place in waters around President Goodluck Jonathan's home state of Bayelsa, where the government recently strengthened military security amid a severe political row.
