Namibia has expressed an interest in strengthening economic ties with Iran, noting that it could benefit greatly from Iranian expertise in extractive industries. Namibian Mines and Energy Minister Isak Katali has said that his country 'remains hopeful that Iran can help it set up gas-sweetening plants in Kudu gas field'. Namibian authorities are also exploring the possibilities of building an oil refinery, improving mineral exploration, and expanding local capacity in Namibia with Iran's help. Meanwhile, Iran has announced that it plans to open an embassy in Windhoek.
