Unity talks between Botswana's leading opposition parties collapsed on December 22. The parties noted in a joint press release that 'the process of co-operation of opposition parties under the umbrella model which was launched by the BCP, BMD, BNF and BPP in April 2011 has not succeeded due to disagreement over the allocation of constituencies... the process has therefore, come to an end'. The parties differed in opinion over which candidates should stand in a number of different constituencies for the 2014 general elections.
