December 2011 | Risk Summary

Regional election fever is set to grip Mauritius in early 2012, with 18 seats up for grabs in the Rodrigues Regional Assembly. The Mouvement Rodriguais (MR), Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais (OPR) and Front Patriotique Rodriguais (FPR) are the three main political blocs competing for seats. Electoral campaigning started in late December following the dissolution of the assembly by President Anerood Jugnauth, and is expected to intensify in January. No official date has yet been given on the polling date, but it is most likely to be before the end of February 2012.
