Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki asked for a six-month political truce and a moratorium on strikes and protests on January 11, warning that the country would otherwise risk committing "collective suicide". The transition to democracy in the country has been one of the most successful in the region. Nevertheless, there have been numerous protests and ongoing tensions between hard- line Islamists and secularists in the past few months. Our relatively bullish economic outlook on Tunisia is based on the assumption that the political environment will stabilise.
