Cameroon's Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, successfully negotiated a resolution between workers' unions and the management of the rubber production company, Hevea-Cameroun (HEVECAM). The discussions were described in local media as 'heated', and took over six hours, but the strike which lasted from January 3 to January 23, was called off after an agreement was reached. It was agreed that workers will be paid an appeasement allowance, a committee will be formed to study further grievances and working conditions, and future disagreements will be addressed through improved 'dialogue'.
