President Goodluck Jonathan has made a preliminary attempt at negotiating with the terrorist organisation Boko Haram, which has killed hundreds of police officers, community leaders, and ordinary citizens. Jonathan said that if the group identifies itself and states its demands, the foundation for dialogue may be established. The organisational structure of Boko Haram is nebulous, and ever since the death of the group's founder Mohammed Yusuf in 2009, there has been no clear leader, making direct communication with the extremists very difficult.
