Arab Spring Claims Fourth Leader
February 2012 | Political Risk AnalysisYemen's presidential election, held on February 21, marks an important milestone in the country's ongoing political crisis, in that it officially brings to an end the rule of former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh. In terms of substantial political reform, however, we stress that little has yet been achieved, and we see political and security risks stemming from a range of domestic conflicts. A particular risk that has been highlighted by the election is the intensifying conflict between the government and the separatist movement in the south, with the peaceful conduct of the election in the north contrasting with instances of violence in the south.
