After the two pro-government parties, the National Liberation Front and the Rally for Democracy, won Algeria's May 10 legislative elections, a new Algerian opposition front composed of 14 small political parties has announced it will boycott the new parliament, calling the election fraudulent. Although the new alliance, which holds only 28 seats of the 462-member body, highlights increasing opposition to the current regime, we do not see major threat to the current regime over the short term. We have therefore revised up our short-term political rating to 55.8 from 55.4 out of 100, due to an improvement in our 'policy continuity' rating.
