The trial of Titus Edzoa over embezzlement allegations should be restarted from scratch according to his lawyer, because one of the three judges hearing the case was transferred. Edzoa is President Paul Biya's former chief of staff, personal doctor, and health minister, who was arrested days after declaring a presidential bid in 1997, and was convicted of a separate case of embezzlement in 1999. He is already serving a 15-year sentence imposed at that time. Critics have decried the arrest and imprisonment as politically motivated.
