High court judge Jane Kabuka has ruled in favour of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) in a high-profile case which could have seen the party's status revoked. The MMD ruled Zambia for over two decades prior to the upset victory of Michael Sata and his Patriotic Front in 2011. Now the leading opposition party, its registration was revoked for alleged failure to pay the necessary fees. Kabuka said that a fine would have been sufficient to remedy the situation, and that the deregistration 'is hereby quashed'.
