Wage negotiations continue to rumble on in the mining sector. The South African National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has announced that its wage dispute with Anglo-Australian mining company BHP Billiton has been referred to the government mediator. The dispute relates to BHP Billiton's Hotazel manganese mines. The union has demanded a 13% wage increase, which BHP Billiton has reciprocated with an offer of just 5%.
