We forecast Algeria's current account to come in surplus to the tune of 7.9% and 4.9% of GDP in 2012 and 2013, respectively, compared to our estimate of 11.1% in 2011. While the current account position will gradually weaken as a result of slowing oil production, elevated global energy prices by historical standards should ensure that the current account remains in surplus in the near term.
