The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has advocated rational use of medicines in the country to improve patient safety in a statement after its annual general meeting. The official statement said the absence of pharmacists in several private, public and other healthcare facilities has put pressure on scarce national resources and is putting patients at unacceptable risk. Poor documentation, research and information on prescribing trends, pharmaceutical care plan and related issues were also highlighted for reducing policymaking ability due to anomalies in nationally generated data. Members of the PSGH pledged to actively support, promote and pursue the enforcement of the provisions of the Pharmacy Act.
