Following Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's visit to Washington in mid-April, it now appears that the disengagement plan will be implemented in summer 2005. However, the scheme is unlikely to improve Israeli-Palestinian relations as under the new terms Israel will not withdraw to pre-1967 borders, more commonly known as the Green Line, and will therefore still occupy internationally recognised Palestinian territory. Although the US has described the proposal as 'brave and courageous', Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia has rejected it, while members of Hamas have said it proves that resistance remains the only way.
