May 2005 | Risk SummaryPreparations for the Gaza disengagement continue, although the pullout has been briefly postponed until August 15 to avoid clashing with a Jewish day of mourning, at the request of the Sephardi chief rabbi. There will certainly be resistance to the plan, but in our view, non-violent means will dominate, with any violence likely to be a minority phenomenon. Opinion polls consistently show that a majority of Israelis back the pullout, and in a society which has suffered greatly from militant attacks in the past, there appears to be little support for those settlers who have threatened
