June 2005 | Risk SummaryOn June 6, the day when Israelis celebrate the capture of East Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967, Palestinians threw stones at Israelis who entered a contested Jerusalem site which is holy to both Jews and Muslims. The site, known as the Temple Mount to Jews or the Haram al-Sharif to Muslims, is a key area of dispute and Ariel Sharon's visit there in 2000 is seen as the trigger for the most recent Palestinian intifada.
