Macroeconomic Forecast Qatar

April 2006 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

We forecast real GDP growth in 2006 and 2007 to reach 6.53% and 6.43% respectively. However, these forecasts are based on our Q205 oil price forecasts, and our upwardly revised Q305 oil price forecasts pose strong upside risks to our economic forecasts. Beyond the oil and gas sectors, construction and real estate continue to dominate. Construction growth is likely to be around 20% in real terms: almost 200,000 square metres of commercial property is under development as of early 2006, with a new cement company, Gulf Cement, looking to launch an IPO in Q206 to rival Qatar National Cement Company.
