King Mohammed held talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika at an Arab summit in the Algerian capital Algiers in March. This was the first time the King had visited the country since his accession and only the second time he had met President Bouteflika. While both sides are obviously keen to improve relations, tensions over Western Sahara will continue to be a stumbling block. At the same summit, Spanish Prime Minister José Rodriguez Zapatero signalled his government's willingness to facilitate a resolution to the 30-year-long conflict between Morocco and Western Saharan separatist group, the Polisario Front.
