The Libyan leadership is confident that the ongoing diplomatic co-operation with the US will result in embassies being opened in the respective capitals before the end of this year. Saif al-Islam Qadhafi, favoured son of leader Muammar Qadhafi, said on May 20 that the US would be willing to allow this decisive step, although it may be dependent on Tripoli granting Washington its demand to engage in military co-operation. Meanwhile, France appears to be ready to boost co-operation in development of Libya's nuclear energy programme. A provisional offer of nuclear co-operation 'in the area of peaceful application of nuclear energy
