Algerian Group Blamed For Mauritania Attack

Algerian Islamist terrorist group, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), has claimed responsibility for a raid in Mauritania in June, in what could be a worrying indication of cross-border insecurity. However, uncertainty about the identity of the attackers remains, in view of suggestions that the GSPC was not responsible and that its claim is merely an attempt to revive its flagging reputation among Islamist groups.
