Botswana is a true democracy, but the Botswana Democratic Party has dominated elections since independence in 1966, and is highly likely to win another outright majority in parliament at the polls due in November, paving the way for President Festus Mogae to continue in office. However, he has said that he will retire in April 2008, when his constitutional limit of 10 years in office runs out.
