April 2006 | Macroeconomic ForecastsThe recently released budget anticipates a small fiscal deficit over the next two years, but only because the government aims to increase spending on infrastructure and social provision. Now the country is ranked investment grade, it is hoped that foreign investment will increase, especially from sources other than SA. Over the medium to long term, a lessening of dependence on its dominant neighbour would be healthy.
