Getting Tough On Separatists

In a surprise move, the Nigerian authorities have taken the fight to militant separatists in the country's main oil-producing region, arresting Moujahid Dokubo Asari, the leader of the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force (NDPVF), before bringing him before a federal court on charges of 'treason and unlawful assembly.' It seems that the move caught Asari and his associates by surprise, as he had previously negotiated an amnesty with the government, following his threat last year to wage 'an all-out war against the Nigerian state.'
