Warming Relations With The US

Following the May 15 announcement by the United States (US) that it would restore full diplomatic relations with Libya, the 45 day process has now been completed successfully. Both sides are yet to announce ambassadors but a US embassy in Tripoli has already been opened. The US has formally removed Libya from its list of 'state sponsors of terrorism', and lifted sanctions on Libyan air transport. Senior State Department official Paula Dobriansky has been sent on a mission to the North African country to foster co-operation in areas such as health, science, and technology.
