Ethiopian troops may be drawn in to the escalating crisis in Somalia, possibly resulting in retaliatory attacks on their own territory. Addis Ababa supports the official Somali government (weak though it is) against the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) that has seized de facto power in much of the country, and there are widespread press reports that Ethiopian troops have entered the country to back their ally, though Ethiopia strongly denies this.
