October 2006 | Ratings UpdateAlthough Nigeria's record for democracy and transparency leaves much to be desired, one trend we are noticing is that, while malpractice does go on, it is increasingly being discussed and dealt with. This was exemplified in the president's push for a third term last year: his attempts to extend his time in office by amending the constitution, were democratically overruled by an opposition which was allowed to organise and discuss the issue. In the latest example of this positive trend, a group of MPs have very publicly condemned in 'very strong terms, the sustained onslaught on the rule of law
