The establishment of a new panel to formalise succession in Saudi Arabia is a step towards allaying fears about the stability and continuity of the House of Saud. Indeed, fears of a competition between the different branches of the royal family have been of concern for many observers of the country. According to the changes, a committee called the Allegiance Institution, chaired by and comprised of the grandsons of the founder of the Kingdom, King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, will make the decision along with the incumbent king.
