Concern of the Saudi authorities over the future of Iraq and the spill-over effects of any drift into full-scale civil war are growing. This was most recently indicated by the announcement of a plan by the Interior Minister Prince Nayef to build a US$12bn security fence, 900km long, along the Saudi-Iraqi border. This is intended to stop the traffic both ways - Saudis going to join the Iraqi insurgency and such fighters coming back to continue their campaign at home.
