Although we are not suggesting that everyone in Lebanon agrees, we are encouraged by Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri's comments that 'the Lebanese are one family and that no enmity exists between them'. Other positive signs include the suggestion from Druze leader Naim Hassan that an Islamic-Christian summit is required to encourage reunification, and also the 'Kiss of Life' campaign, which called upon Beirut residents of all sects to flock to the city centre to revive its flagging economy. However, we emphasise that divisions remain entrenched, and it will take more than these initiatives to bring unity back to Lebanon.
