Sanctions against Iran were finally unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in December, though the actual resolution is weak and minimal as we expected, given the need to keep on side permanent member Russia. Tehran has maintained that it will not stop enrichment, though threats to retaliate against the UNSC resolution have been more subdued, most likely reflecting the symbolic nature of the action by the international community rather than any substantial damage inflicted. While the passing of the resolution reflects Iran's growing isolation to some extent, the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and within the US domestically should continue
