January 2007 | Risk SummaryThe decision of the Supreme Administrative Court to reject the applications of thirteen organisations for political party status undermine the government's claims to be opening up the multiparty system, and supports our view that there is little of the National Democratic Party (NDP) losing its grip on power in the short-to-medium term. Moreover, frequent allegations of arbitrary arrest and violence continue to be reported by the Muslim Brotherhood. While the opening up of the political system could be bad news in terms of the stability required by investors, its absence could have negative long-term ramifications in terms of public resentment
