Although the central bank continues to assert its vigilance, inflation fell throughout Q406, suggesting that the risks of further monetary tightening are limited. Thus, the economic slowdown triggered by the lira's sharp, though temporary, decline in May and June 2006 will likely be shallow, following only 3% real GNP growth in Q3, the worst data since Q102.
