A lack of funding and extreme mismanagement coupled with official corruption have brought the country's public services to their knees. Although all areas of service provision are in deep crisis, health and law and order are perhaps closest to utter meltdown. Hospital doctors in Harare recently have been on strike in protest at the unavailability of equipment and medicines and their own pay and working conditions.
