The US' recent decision to include Syria and Iran in talks over Iraq is encouraging, and could potentially be the beginning of a rapprochement process for Syria. As we have suggested before, a peace deal with Israel is not out of the question, and if the US comes to believe that Syria can help in establishing peace in the region, it may not have much choice but to engage with Damascus.
