Threats to political stability remain very mild, allowing the UAE to retain the top ranking in our political risk ratings. Recent elections to the Federal National Council, an advisory body, changed little, as the franchise was seriously limited. Citizens appear generally sated by current political leaders, and with economic growth prospects still favourable, the political environment is sustainable. That said, we do not discount reports of potential action by radical Islamists. The UAE is not presently facing a significant security risk, but given the country's burgeoning role as a financial, transportation and tourism hub, as well as its traditional ties
